Magnavox ZV457MG9 Dual Deck DVD/VCR Recorder Reviews
It's tough these days to find a VCR/DVD recorder that can record tv programs without having to have cable tv or a converter box. In fact, it's tough to find a new VCR/DVD recorder at all (most I find online are "reconditioned"...I purchased a few of these and had to return them because they all had problems). I dropped my cable subscription and opted to receive free tv off an antenna since most of the programs I watched were on local channels anyway. This VCR/DVD recorder has a built-in DTV tuner, eliminating the need for a converter box if you still have an analog tv. Also, if you subscribe to standard cable, this VCR allows you to receive all of your local TV channels in HD format in addition to adding several local channels that aren't available through a standard cable subscription. In my area, it allowed me to view about 25 additional channels for no additional cable fee! br / This DVD/VCR is easy to program and provides flawless picture quality on both the VCR and DVD. I bought a second one for my parents who tend to be "technically challenged" and they have no problem operating it. It's a bit pricy, but as hard as it is to find a new VCR/DVD recorder, I feel it's worth the price, especially since it allows you to receive several additional channels for free that aren't available through a standard cable subscription.

Can't Beat The Price for the Features - charlie524 -
I love this VHS/DVD Recorder/Tuner. I couldn't find anything else that came close to having its features for the price. In the reviews I read before I purchased it, they said it doesn't keep time well but does better tuned into some channels better than others. For some reason it keeps the minutes right but the hours aren't. I don't need this feature, so I haven't experimented with different channels to see what works. Some reviews also mentioned it is a little noisy when the power is on. True. But this does not bother me and I only notice it if the room is really quiet. I am very happy with this piece of equipment. It does exactly what I need it to do.
Get the HDMI cable - Jody -
I purchased the combination DVD/VCR recorder/player because I like to tape (yes, TAPE!) tv shows to watch later, and once broadcasts became digital, my VCR no longer worked, as it uses an analog signal.br /br /I did not purchase the HDMI cable at the time I bought the unit, and, instead, had to attach about 4 different kinds of cables between the tv and the unit. It was complicated to do this, and the result was only fair. Without that cable, the colors in the picture were off, and it wasn't reliable for recording. I got the HDMI cable about a week later, unplugged all the other cables, and, voila -- the picture was great and the recording worked just fine.br /br /The instruction booklet is overwhelming. It's about 115 pages long and confusing to read through. Fortunately, there is a quick set up sheet that's easily understood.br /br /I have not yet used the DVD feature on this unit, but the VCR works well -- as long as you have the HDMI cable. It also seems to offer a lot of features that I probably will not use, such as labelling and editing DVDs. All in all, it seems to be a good unit and worth the money I spent.br /
